Motor Show 2026 Opens in Colombo, Putting Sri Lanka’s Automotive Business Market in the Spotlight

COLOMBO: The Motor Show 2026 has opened at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, bringing vehicle brands, automotive businesses, accessories suppliers and motor enthusiasts together for a three-day exhibition.

The exhibition commenced on September 11 and will continue until September 13, with the event showcasing a broad range of vehicles and products connected to Sri Lanka’s automotive market.

Organised by MAS Exhibition & Conventions, the event is being positioned as a major platform for automotive businesses to showcase products, connect with potential customers and develop commercial opportunities. The organiser says the exhibition is being held in association with Sirasa TV and Wijeya Newspapers.

The exhibition features several segments of the automotive industry, including luxury vehicles, 4×4 vehicles, motorcycles, electric vehicles, vehicle accessories and spare parts. Daily Mirror also reported that the exhibition features classic cars, electric vehicles, motorcycles and ultra-luxury vehicles.

EVs Take a Bigger Role

Electric mobility is emerging as an important part of this year’s automotive showcase, with the organisers promoting a dedicated EV zone aimed at manufacturers and distributors looking to introduce electric mobility products to the Sri Lankan market.

The growing presence of EV-related businesses reflects the wider changes taking place in Sri Lanka’s automotive sector, where electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and related services are becoming increasingly important areas of business interest.

For vehicle distributors and automotive companies, exhibitions such as the Motor Show provide an opportunity to engage directly with consumers while also building brand visibility and generating potential sales leads.

Business Opportunities Across the Automotive Sector

The economic impact of the event extends beyond vehicle sales.

Automotive accessories, spare parts, tyres, lubricants, vehicle technology, financing, insurance and after-sales services are all connected to the wider vehicle market.

The Motor Show’s organisers have highlighted opportunities for international vehicle manufacturers, distributors and EV companies to use the exhibition as a platform for entering or expanding their presence in Sri Lanka. The organiser has specifically promoted the event to auto dealers, EV manufacturers and distributors from markets including India and China.

The event is also being promoted as a business-to-consumer platform, giving companies direct access to prospective buyers while allowing consumers to compare products and services under one roof.

Visitor Numbers and Market Potential

The organisers have promoted the combined Motor Show and Kedella exhibition as targeting more than 60,000 visitors, while earlier promotional material for the Motor Show highlighted its potential to connect exhibitors with buyers and decision-makers.

For businesses operating in the automotive ecosystem, such visitor traffic can translate into opportunities for customer acquisition, product launches, partnerships and increased market exposure.

The event therefore provides a snapshot of where Sri Lanka’s automotive market is heading, particularly as businesses look for new opportunities following the country’s economic challenges and changes in vehicle-import policies.

A Market Beyond Cars

While vehicles remain the centrepiece, the business ecosystem surrounding them is equally important.

Financing and leasing companies, insurance providers, parts suppliers, workshops, detailing businesses, technology companies and other service providers can all benefit from increased consumer engagement with the automotive sector.

This makes the Motor Show more than a traditional vehicle exhibition. It serves as a marketplace where businesses can test consumer interest, strengthen their brands and identify potential commercial opportunities.

The exhibition continues at BMICH through September 13, giving consumers, industry professionals and businesses an opportunity to explore the latest developments across Sri Lanka’s automotive market.
