CSE Closes Mixed as ASPI Edges Higher While S&P SL20 Declines

COLOMBO, October 7, 2026 — Sri Lanka’s stock market closed on a mixed note today, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) edging higher on gains in selected counters, while the S&P SL20 Index declined amid varied investor interest across key sectors.

Market turnover crossed Rs. 1.1 billion, reflecting continued activity in selected blue-chip and mid-cap counters. Price gains in Ambeon Holdings, Ceylinco Holdings and LOLC Finance supported the upward movement in the broader ASPI.

Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 moved lower as investor interest remained selective. High-net-worth and institutional participation was evident in Asiri Surgical Hospital, Citizens Development Business Finance and Watawala Plantations, while mixed trading interest was recorded in Lanka Milk Foods, John Keells Holdings and ACL Cables.

Retail participation was particularly visible in Waskaduwa Beach Resort, HNB Finance and ACME Printing & Packaging, highlighting continued retail-driven activity in selected counters.

Foreign investor participation remained subdued, with overseas investors ending the session as net sellers, indicating limited foreign appetite despite the broader market maintaining turnover above the Rs. 1 billion mark.

The Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector emerged as the largest contributor to market turnover, driven primarily by trading in Watawala Plantations and Ceylon Cold Stores. The sector index gained 0.78% during the session.

Watawala Plantations recorded a price increase of Rs. 1.00, or 2.13%, to close at Rs. 47.90, while Ceylon Cold Stores gained Rs. 0.50, or 0.42%, to end at Rs. 119.00.

The Diversified Financials sector was the second-highest contributor to turnover, supported by activity in Citizens Development Business Finance, while the sector index advanced 0.43%.

Despite its contribution to turnover, Citizens Development Business Finance saw its share price decline by Rs. 0.10, or 0.30%, to close at Rs. 33.00.

Asiri Surgical Hospital and Commercial Bank were also among the leading contributors to market turnover. Asiri Surgical Hospital recorded a significant decline of Rs. 2.80, or 21.88%, closing at Rs. 10.00, while Commercial Bank remained unchanged at Rs. 201.00.

The session highlighted a market characterised by selective buying, subdued foreign participation and sector-specific trading interest, with gains in several counters helping the broader ASPI finish higher despite weakness in the S&P SL20.
